The Nizhny Novgorod Region is one of the largest industrial-economic and cultural-educational centers of Russia. It is an industrial region with a high share of processing industry in the economy. In terms of the volume of products shipped by manufacturing enterprises, the region confidently enters the top ten Russian regions. The region supports foreign trade relations with a lot of countries and actively attracts Russian and foreign investors.

The region is famous all over the world for its rich cultural heritage and tourist attractions! Among them are the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin that towers above the expanses of the Volga river, the famous Chkalovskaya staircase, the holy monastery in Diveevo which millions of pilgrims head for, the poetic Boldino — the place where great Alexander Pushkin wrote his poems, the mysterious and legendary Lake Svetloyar and much more.

The Nizhny Novgorod Region is the birthplace of many famous people. Archpriest Avvakum, decembrist Bestuzhev-Ryumin, pilot Chkalov and physiologist Sechenov were born here.

The region is rich in folk art crafts. The city Gorodets became famous for carving and painting on wood, Semenov and the villages of Koverninsky district are famous for the traditional Russian Khokhloma painting, Krutets village, Voznesenskoe and Polkhovsky Maydan are famous for Polkhov-Maydan painting, Balakhna — painting on wood and lacework, and the city of Lyskovo — artistic processing of metals.

Traditionally, many international events take place in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The largest of them are «The Russian Art and World» International Festival of Arts n.a. A. Sakharov, «The Great Rivers» International Forum and the International Business Summit.
